Joan was busy with clients and work but she said she could spare a few minutes. She hugged me
"Girl, itâs good to see you again, I have missed you real big," with excitement in her eyes.
"I have missed you too. You look really excited, what have I been missing out on? Fill me in please." I sat down and pulled her to sit next to me.
"Chill, nothing much," she laughed.
"Youâre sure? Who is the new guy that has my best friend blushing like a twelve-year-old teenage girl?" I teased her.
"Oh please, itâs not like that. Those brothers out there playing hide and seek. Iâm not cut out for all that. You know this girl." she said, and we started laughing.
"So what has been going on with you?" she asked.
"You donât want to know. Itâs been ridiculous," I said.
"Okay, I want to hear all about it" She got up and got us some popcorn.
"I met Richard at the home of the missing girlâs mother. I was so furious because I thought, man, he must have a lot of guts," I explained.
"I agree. Who does he even think that he is by the way?" she asked now wearing a frown.
"I donât even know what to say. I chased after him until he was out of sight and it didnât end there. He messaged me to find out why I was after him and then boom he asked me out for dinner."
Her eyes were now wide open. "You donât mean it, the person you are investigating asked you out on a date and you went?"
"Relax, I wouldnât say it was a date. He wanted to talk to me about all that was going on, and according to him he wanted to prove his innocence," I answered her.
"What innocence is he talking about; isnât everything in your investigation pointing at him?" she asked again.
"Initially I thought everything was pointing to him, but it turns out that itâs not the case; itâs deeper than we know and thatâs why I am here. I canât even seem to be able to decide what I want to do." I paused and continued. "You didnât even ask me how our date went."
She laughed "Spill the beans girl; Iâm here for all of it. Heâs hot, yeah?" she winked at me.
"You can say that again. He was staring at me throughout the date; I wanted it to continue but whenever I remembered that I was investigating him I knew it couldnât be. It was a lot of fun; the scenery was beautiful. To be honest I was tripping for him."
She laughed. "You seem to really like this Richard guy. I would have called it Stockholm Syndrome, but you are not being held captive by him."
I laughed. "Jokes aside, I enjoyed my time with him; he even offered me a room that night, since it was getting very late. It was just amazing."
"But wait, were you able to talk to Sugarâs mom?" she asked
I cleared my throat "Unfortunately, she refused to speak to me or Richard, which is partially why he wanted to have dinner with me.
